SCHOOL FIELD EXPERIENCE POLICY

Chesapeake Experience employs a staff of professional, trained environmental educators that are dedicated to providing exceptional field experiences for your students. The goals of our field experiences are to provide a positive atmosphere in hopes students will become stewards of the Bay, that they are safe while kayaking and that they have fun while experiencing the Chesapeake Bay first hand. The following procedures allow us to achieve these goals and provide a great service to teachers.

1. Teachers will receive a written proposal outlining the cost and itinerary for each field experience. This proposal, agreed upon by both parties, will be in place prior to the trip.


2. If a scheduled trip needs to be cancelled by the teacher, please do so as soon as possible. Chesapeake Experience does not require deposits for school field trips, so it is important that the cancellation be completed in a timely manner allowing another group the opportunity to explore the Bay.


3. If the trip needs to be cancelled or rescheduled due to weather conditions (high winds, thunder storms, etc.), Chesapeake Experience will make the determination. If possible, based on published weather reports, the call will be made the afternoon/evening before the trip. Otherwise it will be made the morning of the trip. An alternate weather date is typically established when the initial reservation is made.


4. Trips that are shortened by a sudden change in weather conditions will be considered complete. Safety is of utmost importance to us and we monitor the weather at all times.


5. Full payment for your field experience should be made prior to or, at the latest, the day of the trip. An invoice will be provided as receipt.

It is our hope your group has the safest experience possible, exploring the waters around the Chesapeake Bay and understanding the importance of protecting the Bay and it’s resources within.
