Learn and Play on the Chesapeake Bay

Chesapeake Experience works with each teacher to provide unique field experiences for students in grades 3-12 in the fall and spring of each school year. Since we are mobile, we can design a field trip that will allow students to get up close and personal with local ecosystems throughout Hampton Roads. Prices range from $5-30/student depending on location, duration and activities planned. With safety always in mind, we work hard to provide a meaningful experience that will enhance classroom discussions, standards of learning criteria and other classroom activities. All trips include experienced staff, kayaks/paddles/life jackets, field equipment and everything needed to make your trip a success! Dates fill up quickly, contact Chesapeake Experience today to begin planning your field experience!

Activities for field experiences may include:

  • Kayaking/paddling in a local creek
  • Water quality measurements and comparisons
  • Sampling with seine and dip nets
  • Scavenger hunts
  • Geo-caching on the water
  • Map and other GPS activities
  • Species identification

“Chesapeake Experience offered phenomenal environmental education programs for our third grade students, tailoring the day-long experience to match all of our science Standards of Learning. Students saw all of the concepts that we discussed during the year in action, and are still talking about the day!” Katie Schultz, Teacher, Matthew Whaley Elementary School, Williamsburg.
