Running For The Bay
Updates Section
March 17, 2008
I did it! Yesterday, 3/16/08, I completed the Shamrock Marathon and what I called my “Run for the Bay”! It was a very breezy day in Virginia Beach but I had a great run- my personal best time of 4 hours 24 minutes. I feel great today and am looking forward to a day off of running and a more relaxed training schedule through the kayak season. I was able to chat to many people along the way and spread the word about Chesapeake Experience, the bay and the great educational opportunities we provide. We will be posting photos and a list of sponsors on our website in the next few days- check it out!
Thanks to all your pledges for the race, we have raised just over $900.00 for Chesapeake Experience summer camp scholarships! Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Please know the funds will be used to allow at least 3 students to attend summer camp free of charge. Scholarship awardees will be nominated by local teachers and selected based on interest in the Chesapeake Bay and financial need. We will highlight our scholarship winners on the website later in the season.
If you have already mailed or delivered your pledge, thank you. If you were waiting to hear the big news that I actually finished the race, please mail your contributions to the following address or stop by and see us in our new office space! Thank you again for making the RUN FOR THE BAY a huge success!
Thank You!

Thank you all for your generous pledges for my 26.2 mile Run For the Bay!
We have collected almost $750 and at least 3 students will be given scholarships to attend one week of Chesapeake Bay Kayak Camp. I will be sending applications to local teachers so they can send in recommendations for interested students in their classes. Special consideration will be given to recommended students that have a financial need and a great interest in learning about the Chesapeake Bay. I really appreciate your support and generosity and look forward to sharing the names of the scholarship recipients later in the spring.
Running Progress: I completed my last 20-mile training run today. For the next three weeks, I will run shorter runs and prepare for the marathon on March 16th. If you know of anyone else who would like to contribute, please have them visit our web site for all the information.
I will send out email reminders for pledges after the run on March 16th- checks should be made out to “Chesapeake Experience” and mailed to our address below. We will post run photos and a list of donors on the web site.
Thanks again for your contributions!
